Why captions make your video more watchable
Much social video is watched on mute. Good captions keep viewers watching and make your video usable for everyone.

On the metro, in a queue, at work — many viewers start videos muted. If your video means nothing without sound, it's skipped before you get to speak.
Captions keep people watching#
With text on screen alongside the audio, the brain has two paths to follow. Even with sound on, viewers keep reading and are more likely to stay to the end.
Video for everyone#
Captions are essential for deaf and hard-of-hearing viewers, and very helpful in noisy places or for people watching in a second language. Accessibility means a bigger audience.
What do good captions look like?#
- A legible typeface in a medium or bold weight.
- Enough contrast — light text with a soft shadow or dark backing.
- Two lines at most, ideally one in vertical video.
- Tight sync with the audio — never early, never late.
